As many of you know, I now sell hand made items instead of knitting patterns. I’ll be pivoting my website over the next few days. I’m very excited about the reaction to my earrings in particular. You are all so kind! So many of you have asked about selling the earrings online, and that is my eventual goal. In the meantime, I’ll post my in-person appearances once I have them finalized. Thank you all for your support!

Send Me That Horizon
I’ve always loved the sea. I grew up near the ocean, with both sets of grandparents living a few dozen feet from the water. Playing on the beach, listening to the waves, sailing on a boat, hiking along ocean-side cliffs – I love anything involving the sea. But nothing is the same as being far from shore with no land in sight. I love seeing the horizon taper off to meet the ocean waves; so when I first watched the original Pirates of the Caribbean movie and Captain Jack Sparrow looked into the distance and murmured “Send me that horizon” under his breath my heart sang. I know that feeling, I love that feeling, and with this shawl I want you to experience it too.
This is an easy pattern (most of it is stockinette) and also easy to adjust the length – providing you have enough yarn, you can make this shawl as deep as you want. Incorporating a variation of the feather and fan/old shale, if you can k2tog, ssk and kfb you can make this shawl.

Speranza Cowl
A few years back, a dear friend was diagnosed with a severe form of cancer. My then-4-year-old and I together designed this cowl for her. I pulled out all my super-soft silk yarns and let him pick the yarn. Then the two of us poured through my stitch dictionaries and he picked an arrowhead lace pattern. I added the optional applied lace edging and knit it up and gave it to her to keep warm and strong during her treatments.
She lost her battle with cancer in 2020. But she always had hope no matter what the future held. She was also very proud of her Italian heritage so I named this cowl Speranza in her honor, which means “Hope” in Italian. $2 from each pattern purchased will go towards a cancer charity for as long as this pattern is for sale, starting with the American Cancer Society.
This pattern has been tech edited and test knit. Lace is both charted and written.
Sizes
Small size is 24.5” 62 cm x 12.5” 32 cm with optional lace edging. 11” 28 deep without optional edging.
Large size is 60” 152.5 cm x 7” 18 cm with optional lace edging. 5.5” 14 cm deep without optional edging.
Materials
Though designed for silk, any non-fuzzy laceweight yarn should work fine. Samples knit in the following yarns: 275 (400) yards of silk laceweight yarn. Red sample uses Blue Ridge Yarns Silk Shimmer Lace, 100% silk, in the Mahogany colorway. Green sample uses ITO Yarn’s Kinu, 100% silk, in the Cobalt Green colorway.
Gauge
One repeat of the lace pattern is 1.75” 4.5 cm by .5”
1.5 cm. Save time (and your sanity) – always check your gauge.
Lace
Both lace patterns used are charted and written for your convenience. Applied lace edging is optional.
My Only Goal Is Just To Be
Few of us control where our life takes us. Indeed, the threads of our lives often go in unexpected directions – ups and downs, maybe even sideways or along an unexpected diagonal. Inspired by lyrics from the song “No Day But Today” from the musical Rent, this shawl lets you show your story.
The shawl is knit in the main color first using an easy-to-memorize lace pattern, then the thread of your life is wound through the lace in a contrasting color, showing your story.

Length – 65 inches 165 cm
Width – 4.5 inches 11.5 to 34 inches 86.5
Gauge

• 875 yards 800 m of laceweight yarn
• 75 inches 178 cm of 1/8 inch wide .3 cm ribbon
or yarn in a contrasting color

A note on increases:
Any increase may be used on the increase row, but to maintain a smooth look I recommend using an increase that is not highly visible. For me, m1l are very visible but m1r are hard to spot, so I chose the latter.

Rain. Lots of rain.
My family and I have spent four days on Cape Cod visiting family… four days of rain! Lots of fun with a toddler, let me tell you!
Ah well, at least I got a lot of knitting done. New patterns are coming soon!
Maybe some pictures even sooner!
